Since 2006, Intel chipsets have been using the standalone Intel Management Engine, starting with the Core 2 Duo generation.

The new system includes a separate processor and firmware running on it. It provides full access to all computer hardware including:
  • main processor
  • device RAM
  • devices connected to the computer
Even when the computer is turned off, the firmware continues to work. it's impossible to disable, but it is possible to neutralize it with a tool such as
